  • Mike Stonebraker is a co-founder and the CTO of Vertica Systems, the company that publishes this blog. He was the architect behind INGRES and POSTGRES and was a professor of computer science at the University of California at Berkeley for 25 years.

  • Jerry Held is Vertica's Chairman of the Board and has extensive experience with databases while working at Kleiner Perkins, Oracle, and Tandem. He also led the initial development of the INGRES RDBMS.

  • Mitch Cherniack is an associate professor of computer science at Brandeis University and a winner of the NSF's CAREER Award. His research includes work on query optimization and stream processing systems.

  • David DeWitt is a professor of computer sciences at the University of Wisconsin. He developed the first relational database system benchmark in the early 1980s, and his research focuses on the design and implementation of database management systems.

  • Samuel Madden is an associate professor at MIT in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. His current research includes work on high performance database systems.

  • Stan Zdonik is a professor of computer science at Brown University. He leads the Advanced Data Management Research Group which researches many database-related topics, such as semantic query optimization and stream processing.

  • Don Haderle is best known for his role as the founding architect of DB2. He spent over 37 years at IBM, starting out as a developer and retiring as the CTO for the multi-billion dollar generating Information Management segment.
